This year, I have learned a very important tool for my academic career. That tool is prioritization. Being in Engineering, I have a lot of homework and a lot of projects to do, as well as studying for exams. Having all of this work means that I have to prioritize my work. I have to make sure that I can get everything done on time, and have the most important things done first so that I don’t have to worry about it closer to the due date. This has also helped with my procrastination because I have had to do things before they were due in order to stay ahead of the classwork and be able to do well on exams.
I have made a number of significant relationships this year. This year was my first engineering co-op, so I formed a lot of relationships with really great people at my company. These relationships are important to me not only because I enjoy their friendship, but also because it is very good to have connections in the field of engineering. I am beginning to build my network of professional connections, which is very important in the working world and for my career.
If I was to give myself advice for the future, I would tell myself to keep it up with the course work, and to not let myself get behind because it will be very difficult to catch up. I would tell myself not to start procrastinating again, and to work ahead at every chance. I would also tell myself to make sure that I keep having fun too, because life is not all about work and fun is important as well. I just need to be sure to keep a good balance of the two by continuing to prioritize correctly.
One goal that I have set for myself this year is to start thinking about my future outside of college. Do I want to stay with my co-op company? Do I want a certain career in the engineering field? Where to I want to live? All of these questions are important to start thinking about now, because soon enough I will have to be making these important decisions. I am also setting a goal to keep improving with my schoolwork, and to not let the fact that I am doing better keep me from trying to do more in class and outside of class. I hope to continue improving throughout college and the rest of my life.
